Mr Alexander Dinneen
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Foot and Ankle
Mr Alex Dinneen is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in surgery of the foot and ankle. He has extensive experience in managing all aspects of foot and ankle problems including deformity, arthritis, sports injuries and acute fractures. He offers a bespoke ‘patient focused’ multidisciplinary approach working closely with specialist therapists and clinicians. His practice is underpinned by a comprehensive understanding of biomechanics which helps to ensure optimal outcomes for his patients.
Mr Dinneen is the lead Foot and Ankle Trauma Specialist in Guildford and manages the majority of complex fracture cases, often following referral from colleagues and other Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons.

- Joint preserving bunion and toe correction surgery
- Comprehensive toe, foot and ankle arthritis surgery
- Keyhole surgery for sports related injuries and other conditions
- Ankle Ligament repair and reconstructive surgery
- Achilles Tendon repair surgery
- Complex Foot and Ankle fracture surgery for acute injuries
Background:
Alex graduated from Guys & St Thomas’ Medical School in 2003 and completed his specialist training on the London South West Thames Orthopaedic training rotation. He has experience from working overseas both in New Zealand and Australia. Alex has extensive, high level fellowship training from the world-renowned Perth Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (POSM) group in Western Australia in 2014 and latterly in the UK working in Brighton and Surrey alongside three past presidents of the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society.
Alex returned to his family home county of Surrey in 2016 with his consultant appointment to The Royal Surrey Foundation Trust, Guildford. In addition to his established Foot and Ankle practice Alex is the Clinical Director for Trauma. In this role he takes pride in developing practice and supporting colleagues from many departments in addition to his own. He is actively involved in education both locally and nationally and helps coordinate the South London, Kent, Surrey & Sussex registrar teaching programme to train the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.

Research interests:
Mr Dinneen is currently researching complex ligament injuries of the foot and the potential of joint preserving surgery in improving outcomes of patients with this difficult and disabling problem. He has published in the world’s leading orthopaedic journals and has presented both nationally and internationally in his field of expertise. Mr Dinneen works closely with industry across Europe and is currently working on design of a new plating system for complex midfoot injuries.
Personal interests:
Alex is a bit of an allrounder. He is a passionate golfer, cyclist, keen sailor and water sports enthusiast. He also loves racquet sports and has recently joined his local tennis club. He is a true wildlife lover and spends time walking, cycling or paddleboarding in and around the Surrey and Sussex countryside. At home, Alex enjoys gardening and taking on home improvement projects to test his carpentry skills. In winter months his focus turns to skiing and ski fitness and he enjoys understanding the biomechanics behind performance and recovery from injury, something that many of his patients can relate to and benefit from.
