Elbow Surgical Release

What is elbow surgical release?

If it is discovered that the problems you experience are secondary to golfer’s elbow, surgical removal and reattachment of the flexor tendons may be considered. The skin incision will be closed using dissolvable stitches and covered with a dressing. The outer dressing may be removed after five days, but the sticky dressing underneath stays in place for two weeks while the skin heals.

Regular pain relief should be taken such as paracetamol, along with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, unless contraindicated.

The elbow can be used, as far as pain permits, during this recovery time. Physiotherapy may be required to aid rehabilitation of the joint. Full range of movement should return after two weeks, but in some cases may take a little longer.

When can I return to driving after elbow surgical release?

You can return to driving as soon as is comfortable and you feel able to do so. This can be in as little as a few days.

When can I return to work after elbow surgical release?

You can return to a sedentary job such as office work as soon as you feel able. Those in manual roles can return to work after six weeks. You may be able to return sooner if you can do light duties.
