Darrach’s Procedure (Ulnar head replacement)

One Orthopaedics, Hand and Wrist Specialists in Guildford

What is Darrach’s Procedure?

When rheumatoid arthritis affects the distal radio-ulna joint (DRUJ), the ulna head dislocates from the wrist joint and a painful lump develops on the back of the wrist. This can cause friction on the tendons in the fingers as they pass over the wrist, and are at risk of snapping.

Darrach’s procedure removes the worn out bone, which in turn removes the friction on the tendons and the painful arthritic joint.

How does Darrach’s Procedure work?
